The Belarusian regime is trying to establish full control over the media.
The UN Special Rapporteur Miklos Haraszti, speaking on March 28 in Geneva on the situation of human rights in Belarus, said the following:
- More than 100 peaceful demonstrators, political activists and journalists were unable to reach the venue of the rally or were detained on March 25. The suppression of the right to freedom of expression continues throughout the country, where the state exercises full control over the media.
The Ministry of Information in January 2018 announced the blocking of the site Charter97.org, which is known as a platform for expressing critical views on the work of the government. The authorities said that the media legislation was violated. But there is no evidence of this, " - the special rapporteur said in the statement.
