TASS reports that Stanislav Cherchesov, the head coach of the Kazakhstan national team, was fined for his statement at a press conference.
Kazakhstan plays in Division B (the second strongest) of the League of Nations. In the first four matches, the team has lost three and drawn one. Cherchesov's team did not score a single goal.
On October 13, Kazakhstan lost at home to Slovenia - 0:1. After the match, one of the journalists, who was wearing a PSG jersey, asked the coach a question in Kazakh. Cherchesov replied: "Are you speaking French now?"
The Ministry of Sports of Kazakhstan demanded that the football federation "provide an official explanation for this incident, as well as conduct explanatory work with the head coach of the national team regarding the need for a respectful attitude towards the state language."
"Cherchesov's humor, of course, goes beyond the bounds. I personally talked to him, explained the relevance and priority of the state language. We had a conversation with him, worked. He was fined," said the head of the Kazakhstan Football Federation, Adlet Barmenkulov.
The coach was fined 738,400 tenge (approximately $1,500).
It should be noted that this is not the first such incident. Thus, earlier, Cherchesov, who headed the national team in the summer of 2024, did not like that the journalist's questions were in Kazakh.
The native of North Ossetia is 61 years old. Before Kazakhstan, he headed the Hungarian Ferencvaros and became a two-time champion of this country. Cherchesov is best known for his work with the Russian national team, with which he reached the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup.
