On Friday, 17 January, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin plan to meet in Moscow to sign a strategic partnership agreement. It is noteworthy that the document does not recognise the occupied territories of Ukraine as Russian.
This is reported by Middle East Eye.
It is known that the cooperation agreement will regulate relations between the two countries for the next 20 years. According to the source of the publication, the draft agreement has been finalised after 20-30 rounds of negotiations over four to five years.
He also revealed that the agreement consists of 47 articles that cover a wide range of fields. One of the pact's key points concerns territorial integrity, a point of particular importance to Iran due to the UAE's ongoing claims to three islands in the Persian Gulf that Tehran has controlled since 1971.
At the same time, this clause ‘does not include recognising Crimea, which Russia seized from Ukraine in 2014, or other disputed territories’.
