Analysts have announced the date.
As of today, there are 12 thousand North Korean soldiers in Kursk region. At the current rate of losses, this entire contingent could be killed or wounded in combat by mid-April 2025.
This is reported by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The report reminded of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's statement that as of early January, 3,800 North Korean soldiers had been killed or wounded in Kursk Oblast.
The Institute also recalled a statement by Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov on November 5, 2024, in which he said that DPRK troops were involved in ‘small’ clashes in Kursk Region.
However, on 6 December, Russian military bloggers began claiming that North Korean troops were involved in larger-scale fighting in the region.
Thus, ISW estimated that North Korean troop losses have been around 92 soldiers per day since they began engaging in major battles in early December 2024.
The Institute reminded that North Korea has moved about 12,000 troops into Kursk region. And they suggest that this entire North Korean contingent could be killed or wounded in about 12 weeks (tentatively until mid-April 2025) if North Korean troops continue to suffer similarly high casualties in the future.
‘North Korean troops are likely to continue to experience the higher wounded-to-death ratio that characterises armed conflict. And it is not clear if and when wounded North Korean soldiers will return to action,’ ISW noted.
