Arrested South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has refused to attend a second interrogation by investigators. This complicates the investigation against him on charges of sedition because of the attempt to impose martial law in the country.
This is reported by Reuters.
A spokesman for the Corruption Investigation Office for Senior Officials (CIO), which is leading the criminal investigation, said Yoon has so far refused to talk to investigators, who have prepared a questionnaire of more than 200 pages.
The president's questioning was due to resume at 2pm (0500 GMT) on Thursday, January 16, but the defence said he would not attend.
One of the head of state's lawyers, Yoon Kab Kyun, cited the politician's health problems as the reason for the cancellation and added that further questioning was pointless, without giving details.
Yoon's lawyers believe the arrest warrant is illegal. In their version, it was issued by a court in the wrong jurisdiction, and the team set up to investigate it had no legal mandate to do so.
On Thursday, the president's legal team filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office against the arrest warrant against the CIO chief and some police officers.
Yoon's lawyers deny that he was the mastermind behind the uprising, a crime that in South Korea is punishable by life imprisonment or even formally the death penalty.
