The U.S. Declassifies Important Information About War In Ukraine

A decision has been named that had a “real strategic impact” on the fighting.

The administration of US President Joe Biden has declassified information about how it helped Ukraine develop its military drone industry, The New York Times writes.

It is noted that U.S. officials had made big investments that helped Ukraine start and expand its production of drones as it battled Russia’s larger and better-equipped army.

This support has largely gone on in the shadows.

That included helping Ukraine (with money and by sending intelligence officers to Ukraine) develop a new generation of drones and revolutionize how wars are fought, according to U.S. officials.

Jake Sullivan, the U.S. national security adviser, said the support had “a real strategic impact” on the war.

“We saw how UAVs were becoming increasingly central to the fight in Ukraine and will be central to all future fights,” Mr. Sullivan said.

According to him, efforts to use drones began after the first Ukrainian counteroffensive in the fall of 2022, and they intensified in preparation for the second Ukrainian counteroffensive.

The NYT, citing American officials, noted that US investments have made Ukrainian drones more effective and deadly — they have destroyed a quarter of the Russian Black Sea fleet and helped slow Russia's advance in eastern Ukraine.
