Not Only ‘Lyuty’: AFU Drones Massively Attack Aviation Plants In Kazan

A series of explosions took place.

On the night of 20 January, Ukrainian drones attacked aviation enterprises in Kazan. Presumably, the KAPO-Composite plant, which is part of the United Aircraft Corporation, was under attack, Dialogue reports.

The first explosions were heard at 4:35 a.m. Minsk time in Aviastroitelny district of the city. An hour later, new explosions were recorded in four districts of Kazan: Kirovsky, Moskovsky, Aviastroitelny and Novo-Savinsky.

The Exilenova+ public page analysed video footage from the scene to establish the exact location of the blows. According to their data, the attack was directed at the KAPO-Composite plant, which produces parts and units for aircraft, including plumage and wing mechanisation.

Local authorities confirmed that Kazan was under drone attack and urged residents to stay inside their homes, avoiding the area near windows, while air defence forces work to neutralise the threat.

Russian sources say the attack was carried out by drones of the ‘Lyuty’ type. One of such vehicles was recorded by a mobile phone camera in Aviastroitelny district.

Rosaviatsia announced the closure of Kazan airport for takeoffs and landings. A Red Wings airline plane on a flight from Tashkent to Kazan was forced to make a circle 80 kilometres from the airport because of the introduced ‘Cover’ plan, which provides for temporary restrictions on flights.

The Supernova+ public page assures that the strikes hit the fuel tanks of this plant, which are located near the Borisoglebsk airport.
