The fun is over.
Former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alfred Koch believes Europe can provide its own security. Even without the US:
- The US vice-president's speech had a sobering effect on the European establishment. They finally realised that the fun is over, that no one is messing with them, and that they really need to start taking care of their own security.
Alarmed Macron urgently summons all heads of European countries for an extraordinary meeting in Paris. The agenda is the same: what to do about Trump and his ‘new course’. I would very much like to believe that Europe will adopt and implement a programme of accelerated strengthening of its defence capabilities.
Let me give you just one figure: all European countries collectively spend about 450 billion euros a year on defence. This is more than enough to build a strong and modern army. The whole problem is the absence of a unified plan and lack of coordination. What is needed is a real business plan and subordination to one headquarters to implement this plan. If European leaders manage to agree on this - then I am confident Europe is safe even without the USA.
Once again, ‘the problem is not in the closets, the problem is in the heads’. Europe has plenty of money. But there is no will and no desire. Nobody wants to bother. For decades everything was going so well, we were doing nothing, everything was somehow being solved by itself, we were visiting each other, cutting ribbons, caring about the rights of transsexuals in the army, discussing the problem of bottle caps (so that they would not come off the bottle), and armies were only needed for parades... And then, you know, such an attack: war! Like in that joke about a fireman: ‘Good job, but if there's a fire - it's so scary, it's pretty shitty, you want to quit!’
That's okay. Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger. I believe in Europe. We've seen worse. And I believe that Europe will not leave Ukraine alone. A solution will be found. And America will come back. 100%. Trump shouldn't think that Europe doesn't have leverage over him. They exist. And he will soon find out about them. Europe's leadership crisis has to end. Objective reality is knocking on the door and demands it. And above all, because of the war in Ukraine. It must not be lost. With or without America. It doesn't matter. It is not possible, and that's it. Full stop.
Glory to Ukraine!
