Supplies are limited.
The largest oil pumping station of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in Russia — Kropotkinskaya in the Kavkazsky district of Kuban — was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles on Monday, the consortium reports.
“At present, the Kropotkinskaya pumping station is out of operation. Oil is transported through the Tengiz-Novorossiysk pipeline system at reduced pumping rates, bypassing the pumping station,” the report says
The attack was carried out by seven UAVs, filled with metal striking elements in addition to explosives.
“The attack was conducted with a time interval, with the aim of not only disrupting the operation of the facility, but also causing casualties among the station's operational personnel. There are no casualties among the pumping station personnel. Through prompt, coordinated actions, the consortium's employees were able to prevent the threat of an oil spill. A management team headed by the CEO went to the site to assess the damage and determine the time it would take to restore the station's functionality,” the consortium notes.
CPC connects oil fields in western Kazakhstan and Russian ones on the Caspian shelf with the marine terminal in Novorossiysk. The route is 1,511 km long. The system is the main export route for Kazakh oil, accounting for more than 80% of the volumes pumped through the pipeline from Kazakhstan. CPC is currently capable of transporting about 72.5 million tons of oil per year from Kazakhstan and up to 83 million tons of oil per year through Russia.
