Lukashenka Reveals What Is To Happen To Wildberries In Belarus

The head of the marketplace was at the meeting with the dictator.

Lukashenka has received from the government proposals to develop the Wildberries marketplace in Belarus. This was announced by the dictator at a meeting with big business on 17 February. Wildberries founder Tatiana Kim was among the invitees.

‘They are ready to expand here and sell. The question is: what to sell? ‘We are aiming for import substitution. Our market is small, but we would like to occupy this market with our production.’ And so on and so forth. If so - welcome,’ said Lukashenka.

The ruler specified that ‘one more thing should be taken into account.’

‘I don't want to see the shops of easy accessibility, small shops and so on disappear. I don't want to see a monopoly of large chains. And I don't want someone to have one conditions, and others - another ones,’ said Aliaksandr Lukashenka. ‘However, if someone has modernised and moved into the future, and Wildberries works in this way (I'm already afraid that all trade will soon move to the Internet), we will support such enterprises. But any enterprise has to work for Belarus, for the state. Then I won't have any claims to you’.

Earlier, the Belarusian authorities had questions about the work of Wildberries. The officials also discussed with the management of this marketplace issues concerning the development of infrastructure in Belarus, the opening of logistics centres, and the settlement of ‘double taxation’ issues.
