Russians Send Tanks And Soldiers To Conduct Suicidal Assault In Kursk Region

Details of the attack under the flags of the USSR.

A video of an attack by four Russian armored vehicles near the village of Nikolsky in the Kursk region has appeared on Ukrainian Telegram channels. Judging by the published footage, the tanks and infantry fighting vehicles with the flags of the USSR were driving right through a minefield, after which they were hit by Ukrainian drones and destroyed. The incident caused indignation in Z-channels — the Russian command actually staged another “meat assault”.

“We Can Explain” writes about the results of the failed offensive and the reaction to it:

None of the attacking Russians even reached the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. After the first explosions, the landing party abandoned their vehicles, finding themselves under enemy fire in open terrain. Two tanks were able to drive on, abandoning their wounded comrades and landing party — but Ukrainian drones destroyed them near the next forest plantation. Later, Russian forces managed to evacuate several of the wounded and dead.

Ukrainian observer Kostyantyn Mashovets called the assault a “psychic attack”. According to the Soviet Military Encyclopedia, such attacks are designed to intimidate the enemy, suppress their will and psyche, and are “characteristic of the armies of exploitative states”. Psychological attacks were used during World War I and the Russian Civil War, as well as by the Japanese at the end of World War II (“banzai attacks”). They usually ended in the complete defeat of the attackers.

The attack in the Kursk region was carried out by a company of the 155th Marine Brigade. In early February, Putin said that this unit was fighting “coolly, competently, boldly”, and during a direct line in December last year, he showed the brigade's flag. In fact, the 155th Marine Brigade is famous for its huge losses, war crimes, and a video of the dismemberment of Ukrainian soldiers.

The suicide attack caused outrage on Z-channels. “Under red flags, as if it were a parade, they went head-on into a swarm of Ukrop drones along a mined road!!!!”, “the crazy old men forced Victory banners to be hoisted onto the equipment, after which they sent the column straight into a minefield under attack from thousands of FPV drones. This is such a disgrace!” their authors write. At the same time, large Z-channels (with a million or more subscribers) ignored the defeat of the Russian attack.
