Ukraine needs to offer its own plan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the United States is helping the aggressor country Russia and its dictator Vladimir Putin to emerge from international isolation.

The head of the Ukrainian state responded to the negotiations in Riyadh that took place between the United States and Russia yesterday, October 18.

What is the mood in Ukraine? Will Kyiv continue to stand its ground in this difficult situation? Charter97.org talked about this and more with Ukrainian politician, former Verkhovna Rada deputy Boryslav Bereza:

— Look, these are, so to speak, test balloons for now, which they are testing us with. And the best answer, I believe, was given by the Head of the Defence Intelligence Kirylo Budanov — “we will hold out.” We will hold out, and everything will be fine. The only thing we need to clearly understand is that if we don’t want to be offered someone else’s plans, we need to make our own. To do this, we need to write them down and actively promote them during negotiations, because otherwise they will simply impose another one on us. It’s all very simple.

— There is a popular explanation for the US actions in this situation: “Kissinger in reverse,” “an attempt to use Russia against China this time.” But is it possible to tear Russia away from China today?

— I have serious doubts about whether it will be possible to tear Russia away from China, because today the Chinese economy is very strongly integrated into Russia. There is also a question: does Putin really want this? Because, for example, he is satisfied with the current situation.

This also applies to real negotiations. Apparently, Putin uses them to drag out time and get certain bonuses in his global game, nothing more, nothing less. The fact that Trump believes in such a possibility is great, but I think that his faith may collide with reality and be shattered by Putin’s plans. And he wants to destroy Ukraine and seize all the territories.

Putin also wants to see himself as equal to Trump. By the way, a conflict may arise here, because Trump does not consider Putin equal to himself. He considers himself an alpha male and will want to prove it to Putin. This is exactly what you need to play on, here Ukraine can get the maximum benefits.

In addition, it is important to understand that Trump will not disappear tomorrow — he remains the President of the United States. Therefore, we need to learn to interact with the new administration of the United States if we want to get the maximum result for ourselves.

In this situation, you do not need to be offended or make offended faces, but you need to offer your own plan of action, an alternative one.

People who know Trump say that he is not used to hearing “no”, but is ready to accept alternative possibilities and plans. We need to work in this direction. I think that Trump will very soon become disillusioned with Putin when he realizes that he is just stalling for time. And we need to use this opportunity and get maximum support from the US, especially from Congress, because there are many Republicans and Democrats who support Ukraine. Accordingly, we only need to increase their number.

— Should we expect a strong position from Europe in this situation? Or at least some part of it?

— The EU makes loud statements, it would be good if they were supported by loud deeds and actions, so we need to watch here. Now Europe itself is confused, faced with Trump's latest statements, and is thinking about what to do.

We need to offer Europe a model of interaction in which Russia would remain an enemy (and it is an enemy of Europe and an enemy of Ukraine), and Ukraine would become Europe's shield from a potential invasion of barbarians. Therefore, it would be beneficial for Europe to additionally finance and supply weapons to the Ukrainian army, which would be Europe's defense against a potential threat.

— What are Ukrainians hoping for at this difficult moment in history?

— The Armed Forces of Ukraine. We can always rely on our army. Because as long as there are the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there is Ukraine itself. But if there were no our soldiers, there would be no Ukraine. Therefore, we can seek cooperation with all partners, but we must rely only on ourselves and our army.
