The war of aggression was started only by Russia and Putin.
Leaders and prominent politicians of European countries supported Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the head of the White House, Donald Trump, called him a “dictator without elections.”
They recalled that the brutal war of conquest was started by the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Новини.LIVE offers a selection of the most resonant statements of European politicians.
European leaders supported Zelensky
In particular, Finnish President Alexander Stubb rejected Trump's words and said that his state "supports the Ukrainian Constitution and democratically elected President Volodymyr Zelensky."
"The war of aggression was started only by Russia and Putin. Our job is to discuss with Trump the consequences if Putin gets what he wants,” Stubb recalled.
He was supported by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, who considers Trump's statement "deeply unfair". Støre noted that Zelensky “is an elected president with a large majority.” This position was supported by other Norwegian politicians.
Other words in support of Zelensky
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called Trump's comments “wrong and dangerous.”
"It is simply wrong and dangerous to deny the democratic legitimacy of President Zelensky... The fact that regular elections cannot be held during the war meets the requirements of the Constitution of Ukraine and electoral legislation. No one should claim otherwise,” he said.
One of Ukraine's biggest allies, Czech President Petr Pavel, said that "it takes a lot of cynicism to call the president of such a country a dictator."
“What value would elections have in a country that has defended itself against aggression from a neighbouring nuclear power for three years? How to organize elections when a fifth of the territory is occupied, and the whole country is under daily shelling?" the Czech leader wrote.
The chair of Britain's opposition Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, wrote that “Zelensky is not a dictator — he is a democratically elected leader of Ukraine who courageously resisted Putin's illegal invasion.”
We remind you that Trump said that Ukraine needs to hold presidential elections, since Zelensky allegedly has support only at the level of 4%.
For his part, Zelensky spoke about Trump's statements about the need to hold elections in Ukraine. According to the president of Ukraine, the results of the survey show that 57% of citizens trust him.
