Bloomberg has revealed the details.
The European Union is preparing a significant package of additional military aid for Ukraine. It is planned for a total of about 20 billion euros (almost 21 billion dollars).
Bloomberg reports this.
A source familiar with the matter told Western media that the EU is trying to agree on such aid for the Ukrainian side against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's efforts to achieve a quick peace settlement with Russia.
According to Bloomberg, the initiative will be aimed at:
delivering artillery ammunition,
air defense systems,
high-precision strike missiles,
drones,
and other weapons.
In addition, it is noted that the support package from the European Union is aimed at strengthening Ukrainian military brigades.
When the EU might agree on a new aid package for Ukraine
“The bloc is seeking to agree on a principled initiative that is open to contributions in kind and cash from member states and like-minded allies at a meeting of foreign ministers next week, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity,” Bloomberg reports.
According to the Western publication, EU leaders are then expected to agree on the cost and sign the package.
However, there is a risk that the planned deadlines could shift, since Hungary has voiced the assumption that it will oppose any new military aid to Ukraine. In addition, the timing is influenced by the factor of the elections in Germany, which are scheduled to take place this Sunday.
Bloomberg also writes that the EU is rushing plans to support Ukraine and provide Kyiv with security guarantees in the event of a possible peace agreement with Russia and an increase in its own defense spending since Washington took up negotiations with Moscow.
