Right now, the U.S. isn't supplying anything.

The US has stopped supplying arms and ammunition to Ukraine, but for now Kyiv has reserves to continue fighting, US President Donald Trump said. ‘Right now, we're not supplying anything,’ Trump said while speaking to reporters at the White House broadcast by Fox News television. He said the military aid previously given to Ukraine should be enough until Moscow and Washington agree to resolve the military conflict. ‘We need a [peace] agreement. Otherwise, everything will continue,’ the American president emphasised.

At the same time, Trump admitted that the resumption of US military aid is possible if the peace talks fail. ‘We'll see. Right now we are in the process of negotiations. We've been negotiating quite a bit on the rare earth metals deal and a lot of other things,’ Trump noted. He reminded that he spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the latter, according to the head of the White House, ‘wants to settle everything.’ Trump also added that in the future Europe will have to be responsible for providing Ukraine with military aid.

Without USA support, Ukraine will be able to maintain the current pace of fighting until the summer, after which it will run out of ammunition and the Ukrainian army will no longer be able to use some of its most advanced weapons, former and current Western officials previously told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Ending US military aid is the worst-case scenario, which would require Ukraine to ramp up its own production and get more weapons from European countries, a senior Ukrainian presidential aide acknowledged.

Ukraine currently produces about 55 per cent of its military equipment, with US supplies accounting for about 20 per cent and European supplies 25 per cent, a Western military official told the WSJ. The newspaper's Ukrainian sources specified that Ukraine produces 2.5 million artillery and mortar shells per year, while the US has sent about 3 million artillery shells during the entire period of full-scale fighting. However, Kyiv will not be able to replace the supply of advanced Patriot air defence systems, surface-to-surface ballistic missiles and long-range ATACMS missiles in the short term.

Washington has not announced new military aid packages for Kyiv since Trump's inauguration on 20 January. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that the lack of US support would significantly complicate the situation in the war zone.
