A strange story about the detention of an Armenian citizen.
Blogger Bella (Rosa Babakhanyan), who was tried in Belarus for “distributing extremist materials,” has decided to stay in Armenia, writes Solidarity.
She was brought to Yerevan on February 24, two weeks after her detention in Belarus. Her release was facilitated by Armenian oligarch and leader of the Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan, and the flight was organized on a government business jet, which is also used by the Lukashenka family.
Babakhanyan told journalists that she plans to stay in Armenia, where her brother lives, since other countries are “becoming increasingly unsafe,” and continue to speak in public. The girl did not comment on the circumstances of her release.
But this was done by journalist and blogger Aliaksandr Lapshyn, who was the first to report Bella’s arrest, citing unofficial sources in the Belarusian embassy in Armenia.
— Fortunately for the girl, relations between Russia and Azerbaijan have become extremely tense in recent weeks. Lukashenka, who has become absolutely dependent on Russia and its foreign policy, has been given the opportunity to ignore his friend Aliyev in this relatively unimportant issue. This is, perhaps, all I am ready to tell, — noted Lapshin.
— It is clear that the fact that Bella Babakhanyan was delivered on the personal plane of the Lukashenka family implies that she will politely remain silent about the lawlessness and prison horrors experienced in Belarus. Or she will even thank dictator Lukashenka for the “wisdom” and “nobility” she has shown. And that she herself “got carried away” in her statements and was justly punished.
Let us treat this with understanding, because this is a condition for her release, and if she speaks out against Lukashenka, she will betray the one who vouched for her.
The Armenian Report reminds that the activist’s arrest is not connected with the claims of the Belarusian authorities, but of Azerbaijan — the blogger, known for her sharp statements about Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, has repeatedly stated that she receives threats from Azerbaijanis and fears possible arrest and extradition to this country.
“The latest diplomatic tensions demonstrate the deepening rift between Armenia and Belarus, while strengthening ties between Belarus and Azerbaijan,” the publication notes.
