The Ukrainian military has expanded the tactics of using unmanned aerial vehicles on the front. Now, strikes on Russian positions are carried out by light aircraft converted into unmanned bombers, writes dialog.ua.
One of such raids was recorded by the Russian military.
Footage taken from a thermal imaging sight of a Russian soldier shows a drone crossing the front line at low altitude and dropping an aerial bomb on the positions of Russian occupiers.
A powerful explosion is heard, after which the aircraft successfully leaves the affected area, despite attempts to shoot it down with small arms.
The aircraft use low altitude to bypass Russian radars, which makes them a difficult target for air defense.
At the same time, they remain vulnerable to anti-aircraft artillery. However, as can be seen in the video, in this case the Russian military was unable to stop the strike.
How Ukraine uses drones
Ukraine has long used drones to strike strategic targets deep in Russian territory.
Previously, kamikaze drones were used, but now the Ukrainian Armed Forces have switched to reusable bombers capable of performing night sorties.
At the end of January, such an aircraft dropped a 250-kilogram bomb on the Novozybkov oil pumping station in the Bryansk region. In addition, drones also use lighter munitions, such as the OFAB-100-120.
For guidance, they are equipped with an optoelectronic station with a day and night observation channel. The operators of such aircraft are the Ukrainian 14th Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces, which specializes in deep strikes on Russian territory.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are using the E-300 SkyRanger and A-22 Foxbat to convert them into unmanned bombers.
One of these devices, in the kamikaze version, previously attacked the Russian military technology park “Alabuga” at a distance of 1,200 kilometers from Ukraine. These aircraft were also used in strikes on the Kristall oil refinery in Engels, which is located 700 kilometers from the border.
