To hit Russian regiments, divisions and armies where they are most vulnerable.
Kyiv initially used A-22 sport planes to strike deep inside the Russian Federation, but recently such drones have been spotted near the front line.
The other day footage appeared on the Net showing how an enemy soldier in Bryansk region failed to shoot down a low-flying A-22 using small arms. After a while, an explosion was heard somewhere in the distance: the drone dropped an aerial bomb on the enemy position, Forbes writes.
Experts drew attention to the fact that the A-22 is usually used to hit refineries and rear enemy headquarters. Now the drone is spotted closer to the front line.
There is nothing surprising in this, as Ukraine produces a lot of drones of various types. Not so long ago, Ukrainian engineers managed to modify the A-22. Now it is not just a kamikaze drone, but a bomber that returns to the base after completing the mission.
This could allow it to target Russian regiments, divisions and field armies where they are most vulnerable: at their bivouacs, motor parks and supply depots, potentially 20 kilometres from the contact line and well beyond the reach of smaller drones.
Certainly, a drone will not fulfil all the tasks that combat aviation has no problem performing, but the AFU does not have many of these very combat aircraft.
It was promised to give Ukraine a total of up to 100 F-16 and Mirage 2000 aircraft, which is why it makes sense to send A-22s costing about $90,000 on combat missions not only deep inside the Russian Federation, but also on the front line.
