Something more happened in Washington.
President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington ended with the expected (at least by me) diplomatic and political victory for Ukraine and Zelensky personally. He retained the support of the democratic half of America, Canada and Europe, and ruined — let's hope that now for good, and that they won't pester him with this question anymore — the hopes of Trump and all his supporters to surrender Ukraine to Putin.
In fact, something more happened in Washington today: Zelensky finally buried the Putin-Trump “peace plan” even before the meeting between Trump and Putin, which was supposed to take place based on the results of Trump's Washington talks with Zelensky and which, I think, will no longer take place, because the Putin-Trump “peace plan” has failed and there will be nothing to report to the world community at this meeting, except perhaps the lifting of American sanctions against Russia.
As I have written and said many times, unfortunately, America as an ally and partner for the next four years should be forgotten, as if it had not yet been discovered. America now has a new partner and ally - Putin. This is what Trump confirmed to Zelensky today: America is leaving the game, unless this game is played on Putin's terms and by his rules.
With or without a visit to Washington, Ukraine would not have received a single dollar of military and economic aid from Trump. At least, this has now been definitively announced by the Trump administration. This certainly simplifies Ukraine's position, since there is nothing more dangerous than vain hopes in wartime. In this war, Ukraine will continue to rely on itself and on the help of its allies without the participation of the United States. The whole of America will have to pay for Trump's betrayal very soon.
