The Ukrainian President called for a distinction between “peace” and “absence of war”.
The US President accused the Ukrainian leader of wanting to “fight it out” rather than make peace. However, Volodymyr Zelensky refuted this thesis in an interview with Fox News.
“Nobody wants the war to end as much as we, Ukrainians. [But] peace is not just the absence of war,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian leader noted that he cannot simply order Ukrainians to stop resisting the aggressor.
“Nobody will stop because everyone is afraid that Putin will come back tomorrow,” he noted.
According to Zelensky, he is open to negotiations with Russia, but on the condition that the US provides Ukraine with security guarantees.
It is important to note that during their first personal meeting in several months, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky had an emotional argument, which was provoked by US Vice President J.D. Vance. Trump then released a statement accusing Zelensky of not being ready to make peace.
