The Pope Is On The Mend
POPE FRANCIS

There is no longer an immediate threat to life.

According to the doctors at the Gemelli Clinic, the disease has receded and there is no longer an immediate threat to Pope Francis' life. They announced this in a medical bulletin. However, the Pope is still in the hospital, BILD reports.

Francis has already spent more than three weeks in the hospital due to severe bilateral pneumonia.

“The clinical condition of the Holy Father remains stable. The improvements recorded over the past few days continue. Blood tests confirm this. Francis is responding well to drug therapy,” the doctors said in a statement.

The “pharmacological therapy” will continue for a few more days. The date of discharge has not yet been announced.

Last Sunday evening, the Pope thanked the doctors and medical staff. His letter was published by the Vatican:

“During my long hospitalization, I also experienced the care and tenderness of the doctors and medical staff, whom I thank with all my heart. We need this miracle of tenderness that accompanies all those in need and brings a little light into the night of pain.”

The Pope's health has been deteriorating for some time. In 2021 and 2023, he underwent intestinal surgery and was hospitalized several times due to a hernia in the abdominal wall. The current hospitalization is the longest since he took office in 2013.
