The Ukrainian president has reported on the talks between the delegations of Ukraine and the United States in Jeddah.
During the talks between Ukraine and the United States in Saudi Arabia, the representatives of America understood our proposals. The Ukrainian delegation proposed three first steps - and the US delegation accepted them.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his address to the country on 11 March. The head of state referred to the report on the meeting with the American team provided to him by our delegation.
‘Ukraine is ready for peace. Their readiness to stop the war or to continue the war must be shown in Russia. It is time for the absolute truth,’ the head of state said.
Ukraine proposed three main points. These are ‘silence in the sky’ - missiles, bombs, long-range drones, ‘silence at sea’, and ‘measures to establish confidence in the situation’ - that is, the release of prisoners. The American side understands our arguments and accepts our proposals, specified Volodymyr Zelensky.
In turn, the American side made a proposal to ‘take the first step even further’ - to establish a complete ceasefire along the entire line of hostilities for 30 days.
‘Not only for missiles, drones and bombs, and not only in the Black Sea, but along the entire front line. Ukraine accepts this proposal, we consider it positive, we are ready to take such a step,’ the Ukrainian President emphasised.
As Volodymyr Zelensky specified, the United States of America ‘must now persuade Russia to do this’.
‘That is, we agree, and if the Russians agree - the silence will work at that very moment,’ the Ukrainian president noted.
Meanwhile, American military aid to Ukraine was also discussed during the talks.
‘There is America's readiness to restore defence assistance to Ukraine, as well as intelligence assistance,’ Volodymyr Zelensky added.
