The senator said that Russia should feel “overwhelming economic pain.”
The United States may impose new sanctions against Russia if Moscow rejects the ceasefire agreed upon by Washington and Kyiv at a meeting in Jeddah, said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
“I am very encouraged to hear that Ukraine has agreed to the United States’ proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. <…> I hope Russia will follow. If Russia refuses, we should sanction the hell out of them,” he wrote on X on March 12.
Possible measures in case of Russia's refusal to sign a ceasefire agreement “will not only impact Russia, but will also impose sanctions and tariffs on countries that buy Russian goods, including oil, gas and uranium,” Graham wrote. “ It is long overdue for Russia to feel overwhelming economic pain as a result of their brutal invasion of Ukraine,” the Senate member specified.
I am very encouraged to hear that Ukraine has agreed to the United States’ proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. Well done to the Trump Team.
